Segment Searching - Part Two

When searching the news through a Nexis product, users often save time by searching particular segments of the article, such as the headline, byline and length. A lesser-known segment to search by is the section of a publication.

The Nexis database contains information about which newspaper or magazine sections an article appeared in, helping you narrow your search to include (or exclude) particular sections of a publication.

Our most frequently searched local news source is 'The Australian'. Below are some of the sections available within it and the frequency with which they are published:

  • Sport – daily
  • Local – daily
  • World – daily
  • Features leader – daily
  • Features opinion – Monday - Friday
  • Features letters – daily
  • Features IT– Tuesday
  • Finance – daily
  • Magazine – Saturday
  • Review – Saturday
  • Arts – Monday - Friday
  • Education – Wednesday

If you don not want a certain section to be in your results, just use the 'and not' connector, e.g. headline(telstra) and not section(sport).
