With the notable exception of Victoria which has increased lockdown restrictions in early August 2020, a number of other Australian States and Territories have begun easing their COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. While there is some uncertainty when restrictions will be lifted in Victoria or whether restrictions will be re-imposed in New South Wales (NSW), it is becoming more and more apparent that businesses and organisations will be emerging in a greatly altered landscape following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Businesses and organisations have already had to contend with increased cyber security risks during the move to ‘"work from home"’ arrangements in the first quarter of 2020. The transition period following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions will no doubt bring about further challenges for businesses and organisations particularly in relation to cyber security risks and privacy compliance.
The Australian Cyber Security Centre has issued a number of advisories since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, warning that malicious actors have been actively targeting individuals, businesses, and organisations.
So the question needs to be asked: ‘How are you navigating the post-pandemic privacy and cyber landscape?’
Dudley Kneller is a Partner at Gadens and a legal expert for LexisNexis Regulatory Compliance. In this whitepaper, Dudley summarises the post-pandemic privacy and cyber landscape, outlines the cybersecurity risks during this current transition period and shares the likely permanent changes to organisations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
