LexisNexis marks World Day of Social Justice 2017 with free access to a world-first resource for those seeking social justice

Sydney, 20 February 2017: LexisNexis® is commemorating World Day of Social Justice 2017 with the launch of a world-first, complimentary module – Practical Guidance Social Justice Pacific – as a resource for lawyers, academics, students, advocates and self-litigants working on pro-bono cases and social justice issues.

This module has been developed under the banner of the LexisNexis Rule of Law company mission, which promotes rule of law in Australia and around the world. It covers human trafficking in several Asia Pacific jurisdictions as well as Australian federal discrimination and humanitarian immigration law, and also demonstrates how to establish and manage a charity.

Authors include the Australian Human Rights Commission (Australian federal discrimination law), Fragomen immigration firm, Slave Free Seas (which expands on the existing Slave Free module) and Professor Dale Pinto.

"Practical Guidance Social Justice Pacific is an essential tool for those who have limited access to practical resources to prosecute their case, and for refugees and victims of human trafficking and discrimination who need greater access to justice," says Joanne Beckett, Managing Director LexisNexis Australia.

"World Day of Social Justice supports efforts by the international community to ensure that all people have access to opportunities to improve their lives and the lives of others, and LexisNexis is proud to contribute to this important day."

Initiated by the United Nations in 2009, World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on February 20 to encourage people to look at how social justice affects the eradication of poverty and achievement of full employment and support for social integration. A different issue is tackled each year, with the focus on worldwide injustices that require intervention, such as human trafficking, forced labour or work related rights. World Day of Social Justice 2017 supports fair globalisation.

"The pursuit of social justice and the rule of law go to the very core of the LexisNexis global commitment to promoting equality and fair outcomes for all," Ms Beckett added. "This is the twentieth Practical Guidance module we have developed, and offering it for free makes it particularly valuable for those with limited means. We continue to collaborate with leading advocates on developing resources to further this cause."

All current Lexis Advance subscribers have access to the module free through their Practical Guidance button. Subscribers to other LexisNexis platforms and non-LexisNexis clients can access the free module at http://www.lexisnexis.com.au/practicalguidance/socialjustice.html.
