The shortlist for the 2016 Legal Innovation Index has been announced today by LexisNexis® Pacific and Janders Dean, with the final Index set to be revealed on August 25.

Year on year the competition to receive a place on the Innovation Index increases, a sign that the local legal industry has heard the warning to innovate or get left behind and is embracing areas like design thinking, collaboration and technology to fundamentally change the way they practice.

"What we love about this year's entries is the amount of collaboration between firms, their clients and other specialist law, professional service or technology organisations", explains Joanne Beckett, Managing Director of LexisNexis Australia. "To see the industry set aside competition and work together for the benefit of the client is very innovative for this sector and a sign that the 'age of the client' has come to the fore in Australia".

The 'Organisations category' finalists are Allens, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Gilbert + Tobin, Greenway Chambers, Herbert Smith Freehills, Insolvency Lab, LawHawk Limited, McCullough Robertson Lawyers, Meyer Vandenberg, Pinsent Masons, RACQ and RMB Lawyers.

The 'Individual category' finalists come from a wide range of firm, Government, academia and startup: Amelia Thorpe, UNSW Law; Anne-Marie Cade, Daniel Lew Le Mercier & Co; Claire Smith & Shae McCartney, Clayton Utz; Claire Wivell Plater, The Fold Legal; Clarissa Rayward, Brisbane Family Law Centre; Demetrio Zema, Law Squared; Des Butler, QUT; Jarred Hardman, Crowd & Co; Katie Miller, Victorian Government Solicitor's Office; Peter Whitfield, LawPath; and Sean Roche, Lawfunder.org.

"Again the Legal Innovation Index continues to blow us away each year with the wide range of creativity and design emanating from all areas," adds Justin North, Director, Janders Dean. "While we expect that from New Law firms, this year's in-house counsel, the top end of town and academia have really stepped up to the plate and are delivering some fantastic thinking. Australia should be very proud of how it is not only handling change in legal practice but smashing it out of the ballpark".

The 2016 Legal Innovation Index winners will be announced at a Sydney event on 24 August 2016 and published on the 25 August at http://legalinnovation.com.au/.
