An Anchorman and Ironman Walk into a Bar...
Sydney lawyers clocked out early on Tuesday to attend the LexisNexis–sponsored LawPath seminar, "Growing Your Personal Brand as a Lawyer".
Over 50 Australian lawyers were given lessons in how to build their personal brands from two very high profile personalities, David Koch and Guy Leech, in an event co-hosted by LexisNexis® Pacific, a leading provider of content andtechnology solutions, and LawPath, an online legal service that connects lawyers to warm client leads.
The celebrity line-up of speakers including "Kochie" and World Ironman Champion and Businessman, Guy Leech discussed how they developed their personal profiles with the assistance of targeted strategies, relationship building, and the power of personal and social networking.
From the 'Anchorman' we learned to take stock: "Your biggest investment is your personal brand," said Koch. From the 'Ironman' it was all about sheer determination: "I knew what I wanted to be and do, and decided to create a brand and business around it," said Leech. And from Kirsten Hodgston, author of LinkedIn for Lawyers, we were shown how to harness social media to generate new leads for business and use brand ambassadors to enhance your personal profile.
"In what can be a challenging marketplace, business development is an increasingly paramount focus point for Australian firms," said Tyson Wienker, executive director of strategy, technology and business development at LexisNexis Pacific.
"We hope that everyone was able to leave with some insights on how to supercharge their practices, and pleased that both LawPath and LexisNexis were able to play a role in that."
"Every day we work with solicitors to help them build their practices. We see some lawyers who are great at promoting their own personal brand and some who could do with some assistance," said Paul Lupson, CEO of online legal referral site LawPath.
"This event gave lawyers a unique opportunity to learn from the best," Lupson continued. "David and Guy made it clear that the key elements are to identify what you want to be famous for and make sure you keep focus on that with everything you do."
"For lawyers, it was clear from the speakers that online is now a critical part of creating a brand. We at LawPath can assist with online brand management for lawyers."
