Indexing 1 - What is indexing, index terms lookup?

What are index terms?

An index term is a pre-defined filter that enables you to retrieve articles relevant to a topic without knowing what key words to use in searching for them.

This allows you to perform expert searches in areas even if you don’t know the jargon or topics that relate to that area.

How do I use index terms?

There are two ways of applying index filters to your search.

Firstly, you can use the index terms lookup box. Click on “Add keywords (Index Terms) to your search”, and you will be presented with a screen that allows you to either search a hierarchy of index of terms, or perform a search for index terms relating to a keyword. You simply need to tick the index terms you are interested in and click on “OK”.

Secondly, you can also use the Index segment names, such as terms(…), subject(…) and nexterms (…). For example, rather than typing: hlead(product releas! or new product or latest product or new offering or and pharmaceutical companies or biopharm! companies or drug makers or biopharm! industry or pharma! manuf! or manuf! w/3 pharm!), try typing: terms (new products and pharmaceuticals industry).
