VIC: Victoria needs meaningful bail reform now, not in twelve months
The Victorian Greens have said the Victorian Government must implement meaningful bail reform now and not in twelve months' time, as reports overnight have suggested. The Greens say any delay could have tragic consequences for First Nations Victorians and see the already high number of unsentenced prisoners on remand continue to grow. Victorian Greens justice spokesperson, Katherine Copsey, said the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody was clear that reducing First Nations deaths in detention would only be achieved when governments used prison as a last resort.

Prime Minister must rule out WA-style Cultural Heritage laws
Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud is calling on the Prime Minister to rule out federal Aboriginal heritage reforms, after revelations the Western Australian government is set to scrap its Cultural Heritage laws. Mr Littleproud said it was now more important than ever that the Prime Minister ruled out federal laws that would simply replace the Western Australian laws. He said the Western Australian laws overreached, requiring cultural surveys for even digging a hole. The Federal Government has released an 'Options Paper' for a national model, but has so far been unable to give Australian farmers and private property owners more certainty about future reforms.

WA: State Opposition calls for honesty as State Government refuse to clarify Heritage Laws
The WA Government needs to immediately address speculation their botched Heritage Laws will be scrapped, said WA Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Nationals WA Shane Love. Mr Love said the community needed clarity on the future of the laws, and if true, what caused the Government to make this spectacular backflip and what the fallout will be for people who have made changes to their business operations under this Act. 'This spectacular failure is due to Labor's contempt for due process and their continual use of Parliament as a rubber stamp,' Mr Love said.

Regional Victorians have been blindsided by the news of a settlement agreement that would give indigenous groups a range of sweeping powers. The indigenous groups could have the power to co-manage waterways and biosecurity, as well as procurement contracts and jobs, and even rename all roads, bridges, and public spaces. 'Labor has done a sneaky deal to make a treaty settlement in the lead up to the 2023 state election, before the treaty negotiation process itself has even been finalised' said Victorian Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy.

ANU experts bust common myths about the Voice
The proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice won't act as a third chamber in parliament, radically alter the Constitution or divide Australia by race, leading experts from The Australian National University (ANU) argue. The ANU experts have answered tough questions and common concerns about the proposed Voice ahead of the country's historic referendum later this year. 'We know many Australians still have questions about the Voice, how it will work and what it will deliver,' ANU Vice-President First Nations Professor Peter Yu said. 'And we've also seen a lot of disinformation about the Voice in media, on social media and in the wider public.'
