1. From which courts/tribunals/bodies do the judgments come?

High Court, Federal Court, Supreme Courts of all Australian States and Territories, Land & Environment (NSW), Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Federal Magistrates Court and Takeovers Panel.

LexisNexis Unreported Judgments are updated daily.

3. How do I benefit by subscribing to LexisNexis Unreported Judgments? Why should I pay for something which I can get from the free sites?

  • Unreported Judgments are updated daily, so they are as current as any free site.
  • At present our database contains over 134,600 judgments with new cases being added daily. LexisNexis Unreported Judgments are retrospective, with NSW going back to 1984, High Court from 1947 and Federal Court cases from 1977 onwards.
  • All High Court cases are available free for a week, from the day of receipt, on our website within half-an-hour of receiving the judgment from the court. The edited version, only accessible to Unreported Judgments subscribers, is available on LexisNexis AU the next day.
  • Daily Unreported Judgments notifier, a free notifying service for our subscribers, will bring cases hot off the bench to your desktop.
  • You can link to CaseBase by clicking on the link "View citator document" above the case name in Unrepoted Jugments. Catchwords in CaseBase provide a comprehensive case summary and complete case research can be done through the annotations and statutes included therein.
  • You can hypertext link from reported cases cited in the Unreported Judgments to the full text of the cases in LexisNexis Reports series, New South Wales Law Reports and Queensland Reports.
  • Neat, formatted judgments which are easily readable.
  • If you cannot find a judgment online, you can email your request to our Judgment Request Service at judgment@lexisnexis.com.au and we will do our best to make the judgment available online the next working day.
  • The Search templates are very flexible. The value adding in LexisNexis Unreported Judgments enables subscribers to perform broad free text or specific searches.

4. Where can I find how current unreporteds are?

The currency statement is included in the source information, accessible via the “i” icon beside the source you select on the search page.

5. Who selects which judgments should be included in LexisNexis Unreported Judgments?

ALL judgments from the High Court, Federal Court and Australian States and Territory Supreme Courts are included unless subject to a suppression order.

6. Is it possible to download/print out just one case?

Yes, LexisNexis Unreported Judgments have a number of features to assist you in downloading cases. Any judgment can be printed, emailed or downloaded by clicking on the relevant icon at the top right corner of the case you are viewing.

Catchwords and headnotes, where provided by the court, are included within the text of the judgment.

9. Are the judgments which are later reported in one of the report series removed from the unreported judgments database?

Since the beginning of 1996 judgments reported in any report series have not been deleted from the unreported judgments.
