SYDNEY, 17 August 2010 – LexisNexis® Australia (www.lexisnexis.com.au), a leading provider of content-enabled workflow solutions including practice management, today announced that LexisNexis® CaseBase® Case Citator, Australia’s largest and most current collection of expertly digested cases, annotations and journal articles, now enables access to more than 500,000 entries.
“As the volume of legal materials increases, LexisNexis CaseBase makes it easier to pinpoint relevant cases and journal articles in one location, making it an indispensible resource for any practice that values greater efficiency and knowledge,” said TJ Viljoen, Chief Executive Officer of LexisNexis Pacific. “This significant milestone demonstrates the LexisNexis commitment to provide solutions that enable lawyers to carry out case law reference and legal research efficiently and with confidence.”
Mary Cavanough, National Know-How Manager at Minter Ellison Lawyers said, “Congratulations on reaching this milestone. CaseBase is an invaluable online legal resource and our first ‘port of call’ when undertaking case law research.”
CaseBase enables lawyers to locate and cite only the most relevant case law, covering 98 Australian and overseas report series, judgments and unreported decisions of the High Court, the Federal Court and the Supreme Courts of all Australian states and territories, and other selected jurisdictions, and over 100 journals. More than 25,000 catchwords and links to full-text judgments are provided with new entries for all High Court and significant court decisions, remarkably delivered in just twenty-four hours.
Jennie Rothville, National Library Manager at Piper Alderman, said “CaseBase is a very easy product to use, and the search fields provide great flexibility when conducting legal research queries. We find the bread crumb trail is a great navigation tool, either to continue searching or to start a new search, and the narrow search function is a useful tool in refining your search strategy.”
CaseBase was acquired by LexisNexis Butterworths from Pink Ribbon Publishing in 1998. The name 'Pink Ribbon' comes from the traditional practice of binding loose-leaf papers or bundle of legal documents, typically A4 size, with a pink ribbon for easy access to papers when untied. With the advancement of the Internet, LexisNexis moved CaseBase content onto the current online platform.
