SYDNEY, 17 July, 2009 - LexisNexis Australia, a leading provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, today announced its support of the Australian Lawyers’ Cricket Council, at the launch of the team’s official uniform at a luncheon at TressCox Lawyers in Sydney.
The Australian lawyers’ cricket team is going into battle against eleven Commonwealth teams in the 2nd International Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup, commencing at Cambridge University on 26 July 2009. The final match of the series will be played at the famous “Oval” cricket ground on 4 August 2009.
In just its third year, the International Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup will see Australia’s lawyers battle teams from Barbados, Ireland, Pakistan, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago at venues in Cambridge and London. The last tournament was successfully held in Hyderabad, India in 2007 / 2008.
“We have been training for six months and are looking forward to the tournament immensely. The Australian team comprises barristers and solicitors from a variety states from across Australia,” says Alex Martin, principal of Martin Legal and President of the Australian Lawyers’ Cricket Council.
“The tournament’s motto is ‘Cricket for Friendship.’ The coming together of lawyers from across the Commonwealth provides a chance to breakdown barriers and share experiences, both professionally and personally,” Martin continued.
The Cup has been organised to support charities, this year the beneficiary being the “Chance to Shine” organisation – the biggest school sport development initiative ever undertaken in Britain, aiming to create a sustainable cricket culture in English and Welsh state schools.
