SYDNEY, 21 October, 2009 – LexisNexis Australia, a leading provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, today announced that the organisation will take part in a company-wide charity event on Friday, 23 October 2009. The entire organisation will support Sunnyfield, a NSW based organisation that supports people with disabilities. The event will involve 270 LexisNexis volunteers, and 230 people supported by Sunnyfield including their support staff and their carers. The mammoth event is set to become an annual fixture on the event calendar for both organisations.
TJ Viljoen, CEO, LexisNexis Pacific says “the premise of our global mission is to make a positive difference in our local and global communities through the involvement of our employees. We do not just say that we care but we act on our words and show that LexisNexis can play a role in our local community by helping those who are most in need.”
The day will begin with LexisNexis volunteers visiting Sunnyfield to upskill staff with IT and computer training, followed by a tour of the Sunnyfield Enterprises factories, and meetings with Sunnyfield residents. LexisNexis volunteers will also create a sensory art wall for three young residents who have limited verbal communication skills and use an array of sensory equipment to assist in their communication development.
In the afternoon everyone will come together for a community BBQ, assisted by the Rotary Club, and to participate in entertainment activities at Parramatta Park. Some of the Parramatta Eels and Legends will drop by to run an afternoon of football activities, and Fitness First will also be leading a number of fitness classes. Other afternoon activities include arts and crafts, as well as music making and balloon sculptures. LexisNexis volunteers will be paired with Sunnyfield residents to undertake these activities, providing an opportunity for the LexisNexis team to interact with over 200 of the people Sunnyfield support.
Sunnyfield's CEO, Frank Francis, says: "Without our corporate volunteers, many of the extra activities and outcomes for the people we support provided by Sunnyfield would not exist. We appreciate the assistance and support that LexisNexis has provided us and acknowledge their enormous contribution to Sunnyfield. Every day, our volunteers make a difference to those we support.
We are also beginning to realise the impact volunteer assistance makes when we hear our corporate volunteers noticing improved team morale resulting from their involvement. This community engagement day is a creative and fun event which results in a win-win situation for both LexisNexis and the people supported through Sunnyfield."
