SYDNEY, 1 March 2005 - LexisNexis Australia has announced that it has acquired Capital Monitor (Pty) Ltd, a specialist news service aimed at providing subscribers with up-to-the minute information of happenings in the Federal, State and Territory Parliaments, Governments, agencies and courts.
Capital Monitor delivers copies of raw news to subscriber’s desk tops, moments after it appears, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - the service also alerts customers of any recent developments in their areas of interest.
“This acquisition reinforces our continuing commitment to provide legal and business professionals with a leading portfolio of products and services across the spectrum of customer needs, including legal research, news and business information and practice management tools. The acquisition of Capital Monitor is a solid strategic fit for LexisNexis Australia - it completes our content value chain offering to our core customers and also provides a database of over 1 million new documents, which we will eventually integrate into our online services,” said Max Piper, CEO of LexisNexis Australia.
“We recognise that being aware of the latest policy decisions is vital to remain informed, to be competitive and to comply with the law. The Capital Monitor acquisition will therefore provide LexisNexis customers with up to the minute information, which in turn will keep them ahead of their competition,” Piper continued.
Richard Griffiths, Managing Director of Capital Monitor commented “At Capital Monitor, we are committed to keeping our customers ahead of the latest political and regulatory decisions and recognise the value of up to date information, which is why we have taken the decision to sell Capital Monitor to LexisNexis – we feel that this is a natural progression for both businesses. We are both strongly focused on providing quality, timely and authoritative information, but are also experts in the legal, news and business information industry”.
Capital Monitor has offices in Canberra and Melbourne – these offices will remain in their current location and key staff will remain with the business during its integration with LexisNexis.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
