  • John James Hockley
    Barrister

    BSc (Hons), Dip Ed, PhD (UNE); LL B (UNSW), LLM (Melb), Dip Int’l Tax (Harv) is a commercial barrister practising from Francis Burt Chambers, Perth, Western Australia.

    John Hockley is admitted to practice as a barrister in the Supreme Courts of Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. He practised at the Victorian Bar from 1979—1994, and read with Mr E C S Campbell, later Judge Campbell of the County Court of Victoria.

    John is a Nationally Accredited Mediator (NMAS) and arbitrator, a fellow of Australian Mining Petroleum Law Association (ACICA) and a fellow of IAMA. His professional memberships include Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (AMPLA), the Australian Institute of Administrative Law (AIAL), the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), The Tax Institute and The Law Council of Australia.

    John is co-author of Wills, Probate and Administration Service (WA) (LexisNexis, 1999 —), and author or co-author of articles and books in the wide variety of legal subjects. He teaches Succession Law at the University of Western Australia where he is an Honorary Fellow of the Law School. John regularly presents at seminars and Continuing Legal Education functions.

    Since 2010, John Hockley has been an elected member of the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.

  • The Honorable Justice Clyde Croft

    Justice Croft is the judge in charge of List C (General Commercial List) and also of the Arbitration List in the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

    Prior to his appointment in 2009, Justice Croft practised extensively in property and commercial law and was an arbitrator and mediator in property, construction and commercial disputes, domestically and internationally. He was an Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators (IAMA) Grade 1 Arbitrator (the highest grading), a member of the IAMA Australian and international panel of commercial arbitrators, a member of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) panels of international arbitrators; and represented APRAG at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) International Arbitration Working Group Sessions from 2005 until 2010.

    Justice Croft is also a Life Fellow of IAMA, a Life Fellow of ACICA, a Judicial Fellow of AMINZ and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He was a member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). He was the IAMA National President (1997—2000) and was an IAMA National Councillor and IAMA Vice-President until his appointment. Justice Croft was the treasurer, a director and a fellow of ACICA. He was an accredited mediator under the Australian National Mediator Accreditation System (and a Victorian Bar and IAMA accredited mediator) and a sessional member, victorian civil and administrative tribunal.

    He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2000 and holds the degrees of BEc, LLB and LLM from Monash University, Melbourne, and PhD from the University of Cambridge.

  • Kieran R Hickie
    Barrister, Melbourne

    Kieran Hickie (BCom, LLB (Hons) (Deak)) is a commercial barrister at the Victorian Bar. Kieran was admitted to practice in 2009, and following his admission worked as a solicitor at Gadens Lawyers in the Commercial Litigation and Property groups. Kieran was an associate to the Honourable Justice Croft at the Supreme Court of Victoria before signing the bar roll in October 2013.

    Kieran was a delegate for the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group II (Arbitration). He completed his undergraduate thesis on the enforceability of interim measures of protection in international arbitration (subsequently published), and is an alumnus of the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Law moot. Kieran is completing a Masters of Laws degree at the University of Melbourne.

  • William KQ Ho
    Lawyer, K&L Gates

    William KQ Ho (BA, LLB (Hons) (Deak)) is currently practising as a solicitor at K&L Gates in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. He was admitted to practice in 2009, and worked as a solicitor at Middletons (now merged with K&L Gates) in wide-ranging areas including general commercial litigation and arbitration. He has also been an associate to the Honourable Justice Croft in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

    William has been a delegate for the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) at working sessions of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group II (Arbitration). He has been published in the Journal of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is a member of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA) and an alumnus of the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
