Ray Steinwall

Solicitor of the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales

Ray Steinwall is an Australian lawyer, author and commentator.

Currently he is General Counsel of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Australia, a member of the Australian Competition Tribunal since 2008, Editor of the Competition and Consumer Law Journal and a member of the Competition and Consumer Committee of the Law Council of Australia.

His previous roles include membership of the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council, General Counsel of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of New South Wales, Principal Policy Adviser with The Cabinet Office of New South Wales and associate of a number of Australian law firms.

For over 25 years, he has provided legal and policy advice to governments and companies on competition, consumer protection, commercial law, pricing, access, regulation and public policy.

He has also undertaken a number of reviews for governments including a review of statutory implied conditions and warranties and a review of statutory unconscionable conduct and the franchising code of conduct.

For over 20 years, he has lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students as visiting fellow at the Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales and at other Australian institutions.

He has published numerous books and articles in journals and in the media. He is also the founding editor and general editor of the Competition and Consumer Law Journal.

He has an interest in the development of law in the Asia/Pacific and has provided training and advice to regulatory agencies in the region.
