Ian Weldon

MA (Oxon)

Ian Weldon was educated at St Peter’s College, Oxford, and the Inns of Court School of Law. He was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1977.  Ian was admitted as a barrister in New South Wales in 1985 and in 1986 he was admitted to practice in Western Australia.  He joined the WA Bar Association in 1988.  He has practised in Perth since 1993.

Ian served on the Council of the Law Society of WA from 2001 until 2005 and was President of the Law Society in 2004.  He has also been a member of the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia since 1997 and is presently the elected Chairperson of the Board.

He has an interest in animal law and has lectured and written on that subject.  Between 1998 and 2002 he was a member of the University of Western Australia Animal Ethics Committee.

Ian has been the author of Criminal Law Western Australia since 2001.  He also contributes to other LexisNexis titles including the Australian Encyclopaedia of Forms & Precedents and the Concise Legal Dictionary
