Maintenance upgrade – 2nd February 2008

You will notice the following items available on LexisNexis AU from 2nd February 2008.  We trust you will find the below items make LexisNexis AU easier to use.

Legal Update Wizard (located at “Research Manager” > “Alerts” > “Legal Updates”)
Criteria fields will be rearranged, and ‘All Topics’ will be added to ’Select Topic’ field
This release makes the Legal Update Wizard more intuitive to use. The new order of the fields will be ‘Sources’, ‘Select Topic’ and ‘Jurisdiction’.

Within the ‘Select Topic’ field, the ‘All Topics’ option will be added. This will save time, particularly for those who set alerts for Australian Current Law (Reporter or Legislation service). The default will be set to ‘All Topics’ so users do not need to click multiple topics to create an alert.

If an alert is set for any other source (apart from Australian Current Law – Reporter or Legislation) the ‘Select Topic’ field will automatically include all topics. This will save time and clicks when setting up alerts for other LexisNexis sources.

If either of the sources “Aust Current Law - Reporter” or “Aust Current Law - Legislation” are selected then the ‘Select Topic’ options become available. If neither of the two above sources are selected then the ‘Select Topic’ options remain unavailable to select.

Source Directory
Start Page and Default Display changes

A link to “Make this my start page” will appear near the top right hand corner of the Source Directory on LexisNexis AU in the same position as it appears throughout LexisNexis AU.

Source Directory will also remember the specific Tab (‘Browse Sources’ or ‘Find Sources’) that you last visited, and return you to that same Tab the next time you use the Source Directory.
These improvements have been requested by a number of customers who prefer to start their search in the Source Directory.

‘Sources’ field Dropdown menu will be widened
The ‘Sources’ field will be widened so that it will be clearer for you to see the full source name, making it easier to confirm the source you are choosing.

Halsbury’s Laws of England Results Display Improvement
Display Source and Location data
Subscribers to Halsbury’s Laws of England will notice the ‘Source’ and ‘Location’ data is displayed on the search results page.  This provides more valuable information and also allows you to sort the data by Source and Location, as well as Relevance.

Browser Display Enhancement
Additional information for ease-of-use
When searching within LexisNexis AU you may, at times, have multiple browser windows open.  Currently, the browser description is the same for all open documents or pages.  As of 2nd February, the browser description will contain more information about your actual location within LexisNexis AU. You will see the LexisNexis AU page description (and mouse-over) at the bottom of the screen (when the windows are minimised).  For a visual example please click here.

Please note that three items originally planned for release in February 2008 require additional testing before they can be released.  These items related to retaining citation links in CaseBase documents whilst they are being downloaded or emailed, adding a further option in the Source Directory to ‘select all’ or ‘invert selection’ of titles, and adding a new source selection to the Legal Update Wizard.   We are currently reviewing and retesting these items, and will advise you when they are ready for release.

Planned outage – Sunday 9th March 2008

LexisNexis AU will be unavailable for 6 hours from 5pm (AEST) Sunday March 9th to 11pm Sunday March 9th.

Future planned maintenance release – 15th March 2008

We would also like to advise you of an additional maintenance release which is currently planned for 15th March 2008.  We envisage this release will include minor functionality upgrades and you should not notice a major change, nor experience an outage.  We will provide more details as the date draws nearer.
